Module Assignments

These assignment briefs are designed to assess the learners’ understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of assistive technology in health and care settings.

Module 1: Introduction to Assistive Technology

Assignment Title: Understanding the Basics of Assistive Technology

Write an essay (500 words) defining key terms in assistive technology, including ‘assisted living,’ ‘telecare,’ ‘telehealth,’ and ‘mHealth’ in their own words. Explain the historical evolution of assistive technology and discuss its importance in enhancing the independence and quality of life for residents at College Care Kent. Additionally, outline different types of assistive technology devices and services available today that could be implemented at the care home.

Module 2: Assistive Technology for Long-Term Conditions

Assignment Title: Role of Assistive Technology in Managing Long-Term Conditions

Prepare a report (500 words) on how assistive technology can aid in managing long-term conditions for residents at College Care Kent. Choose three specific assistive technology devices and describe their application in supporting individuals with conditions such as dementia. Include case studies or examples to illustrate the effectiveness of these devices in improving the quality of life for residents with long-term health conditions.

Module 3: Assistive Technology in Health & Care Environments

Assignment Title: Implementing Assistive Technology in Health & Care Settings

Create a presentation (10 slides) providing a rationale for using telehealth and telecare at College Care Kent. Discuss the benefits and challenges associated with assistive technology in a care home setting. Provide examples of specific devices (e.g., Visual Indicators, Motorised Windows, Internet Connected Doorbells) and their impact on care delivery and resident outcomes at College Care Kent.

Module 4: Assistive Technology in Health & Social Care

Assignment Title: Evaluating the Use of Assistive Technology in Health & Social Care

Write an analytical essay (500 words) exploring the advantages, disadvantages, and barriers to using assistive technology at both local and national levels. Discuss the driving forces behind the adoption of technology in health and social care and provide examples of three advantages and three disadvantages of assistive technology in healthcare settings.

Module 5: Assistive Technology for Individuals

Assignment Title: Personalising Assistive Technology for Individual Needs

Develop a case study (500 words) on the user experience of assistive technology. Use one of the scenarios to illustrate how personalised assistive technology can be used to monitor and improve health. Explain both positive and negative experiences of individuals with long-term conditions using assistive living technologies, focusing on user-centred design and daily living activities.

Module 6: Roles & Responsibilities of Assistive Technology

Assignment Title: Ethical and Legal Responsibilities in Assistive Technology

Write an essay (500 words) on the roles and responsibilities of carers and health & care providers in the use of assistive technology. Discuss ethical considerations, legal compliance, data protection, and privacy issues. Include insights from video case studies of health care professionals, family carers, and health visitors to illustrate the practical application of these responsibilities in real-world scenarios.
